The CCPS Preschool program is based upon the Virginia Preschool Initiative Guidelines and the Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning which provides comprehensive standards for four-year-olds in the areas of literacy, mathematics, science, history and social science, health and physical development, personal and social development, music, and the visual arts. See below under resources for the Foundation Block Learning Standards as well as the Quality Indicators that help parents and teachers create learning opportunities for young children.

Registration
Charles City County Public Schools offers a limited number of prekindergarten spots in our VPI program which provides school-readiness skills to eligible children with the greatest need. Children must be 4 years old by September 30 and toilet trained (without pullups). There are no exceptions to age and residency requirements. Applying does not guarantee acceptance as it is based on a set criteria of need.
Prekindergarten VPI applications are accepted during the PK Registration or by contacting the division Student Registrar. The links for all application and registration information is listed below.
Also, there is a prekindergarten program for children with disabilities who must be 2 years old by September 30 to enroll. Each year, Charles City County Public Schools conducts Child Find to locate children with disabilities who need special education services or Section 504 services. If you suspect your child may have a disability, contact the Special Education Specialist for enrollment and application information.
